Phyllis Lucas was the first female gallery owner in a major American city – a feminist before the word was even coined. Her reputation as a friend and mentor to many important artists is legendary. She and her husband Sidney were master printmakers who had a long productive artistic partnership with Salvador Dali resulting in the extraordinary "Lucas Dalis" which grace the walls of museums and collectors worldwide.

Phyllis’ son Michael Lucas and I were colleagues and for many years I worked with him in the wonderland of the Phyllis Lucas Gallery. Michael was a published scholar with insatiable diverse interests. He learned and absorbed valuable insights from his parents about the genius and quirkiness of Salvador Dali. I can tell you from seeing the "Lucas Dalis" lithographs in person that they are magnificent in so many ways – not the least of which is the quality of the printing. The Lucas Family were master printmakers already and Dali was brilliant in selecting them as partners.
